Shown in the below pictures is the group of sunspots responsible for producing the x-class flares that produced the Aurora seen as far south as Florida in May of 2024. My son and I observed the aurora at Trout Lake, WA.
The next day, I photographed the sunspots using the 10" f/5.6 Gustav IV with a phone camera held to the eyepiece. For scale, 12 Earths can fit side by side across the group of sunspots. My wife took the pictures of the Northern Lights, seen at the bottom of this page.
