In the summer of '24, I re-imagined the living room into a movie theater. I sanded down an area of the main wall in the living room so that it was flat, and built it up to what is known as a level 5 drywall finish using a mixture I made from drywall powder. A level 5 finish means it is flat and free of texture. Most movie theaters have a white or silver screen made from a canvas material, however, I chose the wall as it gives me the largest screen possible, and I chose revere pewter by Benjamin Moore for the color as a compromise with Andrea to allow me to convert a wall to a movie theater. She did not want a white screen on the wall. I extended the crown molding from the kitchen all the way around living room to complete the look. The white light switch you see on the screen in the pictures was painted over so it is no longer white.
The projected image is 125" diagonally. The resolution is 1920x1200 at 3,500 ANSI lumens. The projector is connected to a receiver which accepts input from my mac mini running Arch Linux and a chrome stick which we rarely use. 99% of the time, we use the mac mini as Arch Linux is versatile and can run a variety of media formats, unlike the chrome stick which stutters.
